NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Omnicom Media Group announced internally today that Page Thompson, previously head of OMD North America, has been appointed to the newly created position of CEO, Omnicom Media Group North America, putting him in charge of all Omnicom Media Group units in the region, including OMD, PHD and its other strategic business units. This structure mirrors Omnicom Media Group's global structure and its configuration in regions such as Europe, the Middle East and Africa; Latin America; and Asia Pacific.
Daryl Simm, chairman-CEO of Omnicom Media Group, who issued the memo, told Ad Age the move "allows us to leverage our capabilities across more of our companies."
The memo went on to say: "As part of this announcement, Page will take on a number of reporting responsibilities. These include Jill Botway, who has responsibility for our CRM media companies; Steve Grubbs, who leads our U.S. Entertainment and Sports companies; Jennifer Razor, who heads up U.S. business development; and Kathleen Brookbanks on U.S. Human Resource matters. In addition, Page will oversee the OMD and PHD North American operations in conjunction with the global leaders of those businesses. In anticipation of this new structure, earlier this year we announced the appointment of Alan Cohen, who has successfully transitioned into Page's previous U.S. responsibilities as CEO of OMD USA."
Barry Cupples leads the Asia Pacific division of Omnicom Media Group; Colin Gottlieb is CEO of Omnicom Media Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Mauricio Sabogal oversees Omnicom Media Group Latin America.
Mr. Thompson's appointment will be effective Jan. 1, and like the other regional heads he will report directly to Mr. Simm.
In mid-November, OMD named Mainardo de Nardis CEO of OMD Worldwide.
