NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Pharmaceutical company Pfizer has shifted its over-the-counter health-care brands formerly at Cordiant Communications Group's Bates Worldwide to WPP Group's J. Walter Thompson.

JWT will handle advertising responsibilities for brands such as Benadryl, Sudafed, Neosporin, Zantac, Visine, and Rolaids through a new health-care unit, Health@JWT. The new unit, which will be headquartered in New York, will have offices throughout global JWT network.

Meghan Marschall, director of marketing communications for Pfizer consumer health care, said: "With the recent acquisition of Cordiant Communications by WPP Group, we are pleased that our Bates account, creative and research team will be joining our JWT team under the newly formed Health@JWT. We are confident that Health@JWT will continue to deliver the high-quality creative execution that both teams have provided as separate entities."

A spokesman for JWT did not return calls at press time.

The OTC brands received a combined $159 million in ad spending in 2002, according to TNR Media Intelligence/CMR.
