Rémy Martin, the French cognac brand owned by the Rémy Cointreau Group, has appointed Lowe and Partners as lead global agency following a competitive pitch.

London office DLKW Lowe led the winning pitch and will run the global Rémy Martin business, supported by Lowe and Partners network offices in the key regions of U.S. and China. The pitch was handled by Andrew Melsom of Agency Insight in the U.K. The appointment is effective immediately.

The former Vidal Partnership had previously handled some multicultural and Hispanic market work for the brand in the U.S.. and will continue its Rémy Martin Caribbean projects. Earlier this month, Vidal merged with Chicago-based Commonground and Miami-based MGSCOMM to form small holding company Commonground/MGS Founders.

Previously, Miami-based agency La Comunidad had been the brand's agency of record for general market business, winning the account in 2006. In 2008, it led rebranding efforts including limited-edition packaging for the brand's VSOP with the multi-platform "Things Are Getting Interesting" campaign. La Comunidad also launched the Remy V product in 2010 before parting ways with the client in early 2011. Earlier this year, La Comunidad was acquired by Sapient Corp. Publicis Groupe announced earlier this week that it was acquiring Sapient.

When contacted for comment, Lowe and Partners referred calls to the client.
