Four NYC Agencies Chase Advertising Account

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Citigroup's Salomon Smith Barney has selected four agencies to compete for its advertising account, according to executives close to the situation.

The New York-based shops are independents Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners and McGarry Bowen, and Omnicom Group's Merkley Newman Harty and BBDO Worldwide.

Parent Citigroup plans a rebranding of several businesses under the Salomon Smith Barney umbrella in the wake of federal and state investigations regarding impropriety allegations against its analysts. The firm reached an agreement with regulators in December to end the federal and state probes.
