Barbarian Group President Sophie Kelly has assumed the role of CEO, the agency said today, succeeding CEO Benjamin Palmer.
Mr. Palmer, who co-founded the shop in 2001, is moving into the newly created position of chairman. He'll continue his day-to-day activities and remain focused on new business and agency culture, according to the agency.
For Ms. Kelly, the new post adds an official layer of operational control. She's now responsible for "setting the strategic direction of the agency" as well as business growth, the shop said in a statement.
"Sophie has helped us grow up as an agency and has played an instrumental role in building the business while maintaining our creative and tech-focused culture," said Mr. Palmer. "Sophie has been running the business operationally for some time, and this move is a recognition of her talent and achievements."
The move comes nearly four years after South Korean agency network Cheil Worldwide acquired a majority stake in The Barbarian Group Barbarian clients include General Electric, Samsung and PepsiCo, among others.
