MediaCom has held the U.S. account since 2002. One person familiar with the company said the win means an expansion of the agency's responsibilities beyond U.S. borders.
The pitch, called in January, was considered a normal, periodic review of agency relations by the Framingham, Mass.-based marketer.
MediaCom's spokesman referred calls to the client. Executives at Universal McCann declined to comment. Calls to Zenith and Staples were not returned by press time.
