TMPG KEEPS ECHOSTAR $60 MILLION MEDIA ACCOUNT

Satellite TV Company Restructured Marketing Department

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- TMPG, an independent media agency with offices in White Plains, N.Y., has retained Echostar Communications' $60 million media buying and planning account, the agency said.

"There was a formal review and TMPG emerged a winner," said a spokesperson for the agency.

The account was placed in review earlier this year but then put on hold in March after a management shakeup in the Littleton, Colo.-based digital satellite TV company's marketing department following the departure of two key marketing executives, Ira Bahr, senior vice president of marketing, and Mary Ferguson, VP of marketing.

At that time, the broadcast account was moved from the Los Angeles office of Aegis Group's Carat to TMPG, which already handled Echostar's radio promotions account. Echostar then hired Joe Sucharda, formerly of BDS Marketing in Irvine, Calif., as marketing director, and John Scarborough, formerly with Qwest, was named vice president of marketing.

Last month, Mr. Sucharda told Advertising Age that although he was happy with the job that TMPG was doing, the marketer was opening the review again.
