NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Longtime food and beverage marketer Randy Gier has made the leap to the agency side. He has been hired by Omnicom Group's TracyLocke to serve in a newly created role as adviser to the office of the CEO.
In his first agency position, Mr. Gier will liaise with TracyLocke CEO Ron Askew, President-Chief Operating Officer Beth Ann Kaminkow and Chief Financial Officer Stewart Campbell, advising them on brand strategy. The Dallas-headquartered shop is hoping to leverage Mr. Gier's two decades worth of marketing experience -- which includes strong ties to bottlers and franchisees -- for its roster of clients, which includes Taco Bell, 7-Eleven, Aquafina and Hershey's.
Mr. Gier has clocked time at an array of food and beverage giants, starting with his teenage years working at a Dairy Queen. He earned first-hand experience as a franchisee, opening and managing a DQ store during college, and cut his teeth at PepsiCo, first as brand manager for Diet Pepsi and then at the Frito-Lay division managing the company's potato chip portfolio. He went on to serve as chief marketing officer of Yum Brands fast-food chains Pizza Hut and KFC, as well as Yum Restaurants International.
Prior to TracyLocke, Mr. Gier served as chief consumer at Dr Pepper Snapple Group, He was one of a handful of top marketing executives eliminated as part of the marketer's spinoff from Cadbury Schweppes.
Mr. Gier has already updated his LinkedIn page to reflect his new role, stating: "Right now, I'm just learning the agency business and doing whatever it takes to make this place world class ... hoping to be the catalyst in the mix that helps it explode!"
