The call for entries is open for the Wave Festival, a leading ad festival for Latin America that includes the U.S. Hispanic market and Puerto Rico for the second year.
Entries are due by April 1, 2013 for the Wave.
Advertising Age is partnering with the Wave, held April 14-16 in Rio de Janeiro. The regional Wave Festival is organized by Meio & Mensagem, Brazil's top advertising and marketing publication and events organizer, and Ad Age's longtime editorial partner in Brazil.
In a stellar debut performance by the U.S. Hispanic market at the 2013 festival, the U.S. was one of the big winners, with 6 Hispanic agencies capturing 19 awards in Rio de Janeiro. The winning agencies were Alma, Conill, La Comunidad, Grupo Gallegos, LatinWorks, and Vidal Partnership.
All judging is done onsite during the festival, by 45 judges from 8 countries. At this year's festival, the U.S. will have two jury presidents. Jose Molla, founder and chief creative officer of La Comunidad, will preside over the outdoor jury. Mr. Molla's agency last year won Gold outdoor awards at the Wave Festival for its "Volvo in Every Car" app that let users zap the badges of rival car brands to see all the Volvo-created technology inside other cars, and "Converse Highways," which transformed the spaces under highways into colorful places for live events.
The radio jury will be headed by Laurence Klinger, exec VP-chief creative officer at Lapiz, Leo Burnett's Hispanic agency. Mr. Klinger is also president of Circulo Creativo in the U.S. (Other jury presidents include Andy Fogwill from Landia, Africa's Eco Moliterno and Almap BBDO's Luiz Sanches).
Other U.S. judges include Ciro Sarmiento, who joined Dieste last year as executive creative director, on the film and film craft juries, and Federico Duran, a creative director at Conill, Saatchi & Saatchi's U.S. Hispanic agency, on the cyber and mobile juries.And Puerto Rico will have its first judge at the Wave, Enrique Renta, chief creative officer of DDB Latina Puerto Rico. Mr. Renta, who is also a well-known artist, will judge the design and promo categories.
The Wave gives awards in 13 different categories, including film, press, outdoor, cyber, radio, promo, direct, design, PR and the Blue Wave award for big ideas. Film craft and mobile have been added this year, along with a new Green Wave category.
Separately, for the U.S. market only, Circulo Creativo's deadline for entering its third annual U.S.H. Idea awards is also April 1. U.S.H. Idea winners will be announced on April 29 in Miami at AHAA's annual conference.
