UNIVERSAL MCCANN WINS MAYTAG

$100 Million Media Account for All Marketer's Appliance Brands

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Maytag Corp., Newton, Iowa, consolidated its $100 million media planning and buying account with Universal McCann, New York.

The Inrerpublic Group of Cos. agency will work on all of its appliance brands Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana and Hoover.

Nelson Sofres CMR, Maytag spent a combined $94 million on measured media for these brands last year, including advertising for retail outlets.

Other competing agencies in the review include incumbent Bcom3 Group's Starcom Worldwide, Chicago; Zenith Media, New York, owned jointly by Publicis Groupe and Cordiant Communications Group; and Aegis Group's Carat USA, Chicago.

Interpublic's Initiative Media North America, Chicago, which handled buying for Hoover, was dropped earlier from the review.

The company's creative advertising agency for the Maytag and Jenn-Air brands continues to be Bcom3 Group's Leo Burnett, Chicago. Interpublic's Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, is advertising agency of record for Amana. Hoover's advertising agency is Ten United, Pittsburgh.
