A agency spokeswoman referred questions to Walgreen.
The review included Downtown Partners and WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago, said Craig Sinclair, vice president of advertising at Walgreen. Media remains at Publicis Groupe's Starcom, Chicago. Walgreens handles print and in-store advertising in-house.
Walgreen spent $125.6 million in measured media last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.
Walgreen, the country's largest drugstore chain, previously had its account with Havas' Euro RSCG Worldwide, Chicago, which has been wracked by client defections and executive departures. Chicago industry veteran Ron Bess was recently brought in to manage the agency.
Industry executives predict that Jim Schmidt, the former Euro creative director who handled the account, will go to Downtown Partners.
Walgreen would be the first client for Downtown Partners, which was formed in April. Ray Gillette, former president of DDB Worldwide, Chicago, heads up the boutique shop.
