Weight Watchers Opens Review for $65 Million Ad Account

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Weight Watchers International is putting its $65 million advertising account into review after two years with Y&R, New York, according to executives familiar with the situation.

Weight Watchers has just signed Boston-based consultancy Pile & Co. to handle the review. Y&R's Brand Buzz unit is said to be participating, though Pile is still compiling an initial list of agencies.

Both the Y&R and Pile & Co. referred calls to the client. Weight Watchers did not return calls for comment.

The diet-management service's CEO, Linda Huett, retired at the end of 2006 and was replaced by David Kirchhoff, the former head of WeightWatchers.com and chief operating officer for Europe and Asia.

According to TNS Media Intelligence, Weight Watchers spent $59 million on advertising across all media in 2005 and $63 million for the first nine months of 2006.
