Wireless Carrier SunCom Puts Ad Account Into Review

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- SunCom Wireless, a wireless carrier operating in the Southeastern U.S. and parts of the Caribbean, has put its advertising account up for review, executives familiar with the company said.

Margeotes Fertitta Powell, majority-owned by MDC Partners and located in New York, is the incumbent on the account.

$23 million
The marketer spent $23 million on media in 2005, according to TNS Media Intelligence. And according to a client list recently provided by Margeotes Fertitta and TNS Media Intelligence, it was the agency's largest agency-of-record media spender last year.

SunCom provides digital service to more than 1 million subscribers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Northern Georgia, areas of eastern Tennessee, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It has offices in Berwyn, Pa., Charlotte, N.C., Charleston, S.C., Richmond, Va., and Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.

SunCom declined to comment, as the company does not comment on contractual arrangements, a spokeswoman said. Margeotes Fertitta also had no comment.
