The Scout Report, produced by the Computer Sciences Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a weekly e-mail newsletter offering a selection of newly discovered resources on the Internet. Librarians and educators scour the Web daily to find the most valuable sites - ones that are easy to use, updated often, and usually free. Each Scout Report includes links to new government data online, academic working papers, research materials, and much more. One recent issue featured new data from the Department of Education, a Web site that's known as Europe's largest independent rock music archive, and another site that gives access to government data for the United Kingdom. Besides the main Scout Report, there are also specialized biweekly reports on business/economics, science/engineering, and the social sciences. Subscriptions are free for all of the Scout Reports; just visit the site and sign up.
