Spending on wireless services by ethnic groups is expected to stay strong during the next few years, according to telecommunications market research firm Insight Research Corporation in Parsippany, New Jersey. Roughly 40 percent of African Americans own a cell phone today and their spending on wireless devices - defined as mobile phones and pagers - is projected to increase 31 percent, to $2.1 billion, by 2003. Purchases by Asian Americans will grow 63 percent, from $430 million to $700 million.
