The Commonwealth Fund is a New York City-based foundation supporting independent research on health and social issues. At its site, visitors can browse publications related to the health of women, minorities, and children, as well as other subjects. One new study finds that nearly one out of three Americans aged 55 to 64 rate their health as fair or poor. Of those who give low marks to their health status, more than half (53 percent) cannot pay medical bills, one out of five is uninsured, and two out of five went without needed care in the past year.
