Looking for the most wired cities? Check out this stats page from Network Solutions, the leading registrar of domain names on the Internet. The company has mined its database to figure out which states, cities, and metro areas have registered the greatest number of Web addresses since 1998. Not surprisingly, the city data shows that residents of New York City and San Francisco bought the most domain names last year. The rankings change, however, when you look at the number of registrations on a per-capita basis. In that analysis, the top three cities for domain registrations last year were Princeton, New Jersey; Beverly Hills, California; and Fairfield, Iowa. Other data shows an increase in non-technical people purchasing domain names so they can promote their businesses online. The top occupations of first-time domain buyers at the beginning of this year were photographers, attorneys, and realtors.
