Sachs Group, a market research company for the healthcare industry, has expanded its online data bank to include a 17-state database covering three years of hospital-patient discharge records, giving planners the ability to study migration patterns over time. Outmigration is a significant issue for hospitals - the database allows users to see how many patients go outside of their geographic area for treatment. New Jersey hospital administrators, for instance, could analyze the discharge records of Philadelphia hospitals to gauge how many people are crossing the state border for medical care. For a fee, users can download information from the site in a spreadsheet-compatible format. Other areas covered in the database: inpatient/ outpatient demand estimates, demographics, and insurance coverage information.
