'Recipeace' Luncheon Between Muslims and Jews Wins Best of Show at One Show Design

Leo Burnett Chicago's "Recipeace" won the Best of Show honors at this year's One Show Design Awards, presented Monday in New York City. The campaign, which brought together Muslim and Jewish organizations over lunch to discuss conflict in the Middle East, helped to open minds between the groups. The initial lunch led to other similar events held at restaurants around Chicago, as well as further dialogue online and in social media.

The effort also won D&AD's inaugural "White Pencil" prize in November last year.

The 13th annual One Show Design awards handed out prizes to 274 winners from 28 countries -- winners emerging from a pool of just under 4,000 submissions. A total of 25 Gold Pencils, 27 Silver Pencils and 25 Bronze Pencils were awarded at lower Manhattan's IAC building.

Among the big winners were Serviceplan Munich, who won a Gold in the indoor Spatial Design category for Lego's "Builders of Sound." Co-promoting Star Wars Episode One in 3D, the campaign featured a barrel organ created out of Legos, which when turned played Star Wars' theme song--an amazing feat considering the barrel's multidimensional topography reflected scenes from the film itself.

Stockholm's Family Business also had a winning night, earning Gold and a Silver Pencil for "the Absolut Unique" for Absolut, in which the brand, known for its artsy heritage, created 4 million uniquely design bottles, distributed in various markets.

Bear Meets Eagle on Fire of Sydney also won two Golds in the product design and package design categories for "Smile Makers Vibrators."

"The world beyond the design industry is beginning to understand something that most within the industry have known for decades: Design is more than the craft, form and function," said Seth Callaway, Producer for One Show Design, in a statement. "Design is about ideas and applying the thought process of a designer at the outset of a creative solution, which is clearly evident in the work of this year's winners."
