While the fact that Netflix has made history by bagging nine Emmy nominations for "House of Cards" is what took up everybody's attention Thursday morning, four commercials are also up for receiving the golden statuette in September.
Wieden & Kennedy is up for one, for Nike's "Jogger," spot (which also ranked number one in Creativity's countdown of our favorite TV work of 2012. If Wieden wins, this is the fifth straight Emmy for the Portland office -- it won last year for P&G's "Best Job."
Grey New York has also been nominated, for the lovely "Inspired" commercial for Canon, which featured the lengths to which photographers will go for that favorite shot. The commercial was shot by MJZ's Nicolai Fuglig, who himself is known to go out of the way for a great shot.
Google's Creative Lab has also been nominated for "Jess Time" for Chrome, the tale of a single dad and his collegiate daughter, who keep in touch despite distance. It was directed via Nannette Burstein at
And Grey Poupon's "The Chase," which remade the classic "Pardon Me" commercial into a high-speed chase, is also nominated. It was created by Crispin Porter & Bogusky.
