In a Hong Kong supermarket: "For your convenience, we recommend courteous, efficient self-servive." In a Japanese ad for Dydo coffee: "There's a gallon of deliciousness in every drop." Not to mention a tankful of muddled English.

Let's Make Ads Better: Philips Electronics has a new multimedia projector, the Hopper, that it's been advertising in the European trade press. One such ad announces a special deal: buy a Hopper and Philips will throw in an LCD screen and a Sony DVD player. Yep -- a Sony, even though Philips makes fine DVD players itself. Picture clarity: a draw. Mental clarity: advantage Sony.
