John Brandt, recently appointed the first-ever editorial director of Chief Executive, has been busy overseeing a redesign he hopes will broaden the title’s advertising base. The new format makes its debut this month.
"We’ve tended to do a lot of think pieces, and we’ll still have information on how to lead, but we’ll also have stories that dig deeper into CEOs’ lives," Brandt said. "We want to have a lot more fun."
New sections in the 42,000 circulation monthly include "Downtime," a column describing what CEOs do for play and "Disposable Income," which will delve into CEOs’ spending habits. The "Tech and the CEO" column will discuss the questions CEOs need to ask CIOs.
DotCEO, which debuted with a single issue last year and then was put on hold because of the economic slowdown, will re-appear later this year as a custom-published, sole-sponsored product, Brandt said. The struggling economy also prompted Chief Executive Group to lay off an unspecified number of staffers this summer.
Brandt will continue writing a column on leadership for Penton Media Inc.’s InfoWeek, where he was editor in chief and publisher before joining Chief Executive.
