‘E&P’ closes, but hopes remain for a buyer to appear

Published on .

New York—Nielsen Business Media’s Editor & Publisher, which covered the newspaper industry for more than 125 years, officially shut down Dec. 31; but on New Year’s Day, the editors of the magazine launched a blog called E&P in Exile.

In the blog’s first post, E&P Editor Greg Mitchell wrote, “Several possible buyers have stepped forward, but any firm agreement, we’re told, is at least two weeks away. There appears to be a fairly good chance that Editor & Publisher will resume, but we cannot say when or in precisely what form.”

Nielsen Co. is in the process of divesting itself of its trade publications. Last month it announced a deal to sell The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard and other publications to e5 Global Media, a new company formed jointly by Pluribus Capital Management, a media private equity partnership, and Guggenheim Partners, a financial services firm.
