McLean, Va.—Gannett Co.’s USA Today announced Friday a major organizational restructuring that hastens the newspaper’s continuing moves into digital and mobile content.

The changes will result in the cutting of about 130 of 1,500 jobs at the paper, about a 9% reduction, according to the Associated Press.

The restructuring includes the creation of five new departments: business development, digital development, product development and design, vertical development and USA Today Sports.

“This significant restructuring reflects USA Today’s evolution from a newspaper company to a multiplatform media company,” David L. Hunke, president-publisher of USA Today, said in a statement.
