‘Variety’ announces editorial staff changes

Published on .

Los Angeles—In the wake of the ouster of Leo Wolinsky as editor of Daily Variety, Reed Business Information’s Variety announced that Brian Cochrane and Cynthia Littleton will oversee news for Daily Variety in print and on the Web. They will share the title of deputy editor.

Cochrane was assistant managing editor of Variety’s weekly edition. Littleton was deputy editor of Variety.

Also promoted to deputy editor were Carole Horst and Peter Caranicas, who will take over Variety’s weekly edition in January. The weekly is slated to be redesigned in the first quarter of 2011.

Wolinsky, a former Los Angeles Times managing editor, had started with Daily Variety in January. The Variety brand is struggling with falling ad pages, staff cutbacks and new Internet challengers such as TheWrap.com.
