New York—The Wall Street Journal reported that AOL and private equity firms are looking into making a bid for Yahoo. The story said the discussions were preliminary and did not yet include Yahoo.

Silver Lake Partners and Blackstone Group were two of the private equity funds identified in the story as being in discussions with AOL about Yahoo. (Microsoft Corp. made an unsucessful bid for Yahoo two years ago.)

In early trading on Thursday, Yahoo's share prices reached $15.83, a 3.8% increase over Wednesday's close.
