The Alliance of Area Business Publications last month presented 99 Editorial Excellence Awards at its annual Summer Conference in Charleston, S.C. The awards recognize excellence in journalism, photography and design by regional business publications.

Twin Cities Business was honored with a gold award as best magazine. Crain’s New York Business won the gold award as the best newspaper in the large tabloid category, and the Boulder County Business Report took the gold in the small tabloid category. Oregon Business was named the most improved publication.

The AABP expanded the awards competition this year to include a Web site category, in which Crain’s Detroit Business took top honors.

Crain’s Chicago Business won the most total awards—11, including 10 gold awards.

Crain Communications Inc., the parent company of Media Business, publishes the Crain city business titles.

This year’s competition was judged by 30 faculty members from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

“The best of the best are marvelous examples of professional work from staffs serving their market niche,” said Daryl Moen, who coordinated the contest. “The writing and design—and increasingly the work on the Web—is exemplary.”
