ABC to boost auditing staff

Chicago—At its annual conference, the Audit Bureau of Circulations discussed two main ways that it plans to strengthen its auditing ability in the wake of several newspaper circulation scandals uncovered in the past year, according to a report in The New York Times. ABC plans to increase its staff by as much as 20% over the next year. About half the new employees will be auditors, the report said. Additionally, the organization plans to tighten rules that allow third-party sales to be counted as paid circulation.
