The Littleford Awards, named after the chairman emeritus of BPI Communications (now part of Nielsen Co.), recognize outstanding dedication to corporate community service. Nominees are selected by ABM members.
Halcrow Group, nominated by McGraw-Hill Cos.' Engineering News Record, was recognized for donating more than $147,000 in aid to victims of the 2004 tsunami and providing engineers to build new facilities in Africa and Sri Lanka. Halcrow was awarded a $3,000 donation to the charity of its choice.
The first runner-up was Library Journal, nominated by Reed Business Information, for its Library Makeover program. The program is designed to showcase the latest in library design, furnishings and technology. Library Journal received a $1,000 donation for introducing the Library Makeover program.
The second runner-up was mercyFirst, nominated by CMP Technology's Web site, www.cmp.com, for its work providing teenagers living at mercyFirst's St. Mary's Campus in Syosset, N.Y., with guidance and mentorship through a pair of annual four-week, "job shadowing" programs. MercyFirst received a $750 donation for its efforts.
The awards ceremony was held at the Union League Club of New York.
