ABM changes venue for 2010 annual conference to Charleston

By Published on .

New York—American Business Media's Annual Conference will be held next year in Charleston, S.C., May 2–4, Gordon T. Hughes II, president-CEO of the association, told BtoB Wednesday. The conference was initially scheduled for the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Arizona May 2–5, but ABM canceled its reservations for that venue to trim expenses.

Due to sparse attendance related to the economic downturn, the 2009 annual conference, which was held in May in Amelia Island, Fla., generated just $195,625 in revenue. That was a steep decline from the 2008 annual conference, which generated $471,200, according to ABM's annual report.

“We've negotiated a great group rate of $199 a night [at the Charleston Place Hotel], and we think our members are going to be highly responsive to that,” Hughes said.
