New York--As expected, the American Business Press at its Aug. 17 board meeting moved to expand its membership to include online publishers, such as VerticalNet, and other non-print business media companies. "It's significant stuff for our association," said Marshall Freeman, chairman of Miller Freeman and the ABP. "It's an acknowledgement that most of us are involved in business-to-business media beyond the print product. We should have an association that reflects that." The board also approved a 7.5% across-the-board dues increase. These moves are motivated in part by industry consolidation through mergers and acquisitions that has hurt the ABP's dues revenue. The changes won't be officially instituted until they are approved by the membership as a whole. A vote is scheduled for November.
