Accel-KKR, McDonald's to form Web company

Published on .

Palo Alto, Calif.--Perhaps only the Internet economy could bring together the world's most prestigious buyout firm and the biggest burger flipper. Accel-KKR Internet Co. and McDonald's Corp., Oak Brook, Ill., will start eMac Digital, a stand-alone company that will allow McDonald's franchisees to buy everything from ketchup to grills online. McDonald's CEO Jack Greenberg will serve on the company's board. Earlier this year, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Accel Partners formed Accel-KKR, which invests in the Web units of big, old-line companies.
