New York--Accenture will fire 600 employees and ask 800 more to take a voluntary six- to 12-month sabbatical. The moves would affect about 2% of its 75,000-person work force. Those who elect to take the sabbatical will receive 20% of their salaries and benefits, including equity participation in Accenture's planned IPO. The consultancy's layoffs follow those of competitors KPMG Consulting Inc. and PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P.
