San Jose, Calif.—Acer America Corp. has introduced the Acer Iconia Tab W500 tablet computer in North America. The device has a 10.1-inch screen and runs Microsoft Windows 7.

The Iconia Tab W500 offers an optional, full-size chiclet docking keyboard that connects to the tablet via USB. A version of the device is available at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $549.99.

Acer is the latest technology company to debut a tablet in the wake of Apple Corp.'s iPad, which sold 4.69 million units in the first quarter of this year.
