Ad pages, revenue down in first quarter

The latest Business Information Network figures show first-quarter ad pages fell 10.4% and ad spending dropped 9.4%, as trade publications continued to struggle with a weakening economy. The only bright spot in ad pages was telecommunications, up 5.5%, with the 11 remaining categories showing declines, including computers, down 17%; automotive, down 16%; finance, business and advertising down 14%; and classified, down 13%. There were nearly identical declines in each of the above categories in terms of ad spending.
