Ad spending on newspaper Web sites up 18.8% in 2007

Arlington, Va.—Advertising expenditures for newspaper Web sites rose 18.8% to $3.2 billion in 2007, according to preliminary estimates released Friday by the Newspaper Association of America. Spending on newspaper Web sites accounted for 7.5% of all newspaper ad spending last year, up from 5.7% in 2006.

In last year's fourth quarter, advertising expenditures for newspaper Web sites increased 13.6% to $847 million compared with the same period in 2006. That marked the 13th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth for online newspaper advertising since NAA started reporting on the category in 2004.
