Advanced Micro Devices to launch TV campaign

Sunnyvale, Calif.--Advanced Micro Devices is expected to launch a TV branding campaign supporting the consumer launch of the AMD Athlon processor in the fall. The campaign, which is to be created by Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston, will go head to head with Intel Corp.'s long-running ``Intel Inside'' campaign. AMD is pinning its hopes on the high-speed Athlon chip to break both Intel's stranglehold on the personal computer market and AMD's recent financial free fall: The company is expected to report a $200 million operating loss in the second quarter of 1999. The Athlon is already shipping to such manufacturers as IBM Corp., Gateway and Compaq Computer Corp. AMD refused to comment.
