Washington, D.C.—The American Institute of Architects announced that Hanley Wood's Architect will become the organization's official publication beginning in 2011.

The agreement with Hanley Wood encompasses print, digital and face-to-face.

Currently, McGraw-Hill Construction's Architectural Record is the association's official publication. In a press release, AIA said Hanley Wood would "begin negotiating development of an integrated media approach for the AIA's official publication and annual convention," the AIA National Convention and Design Exposition. M/C Communications currently handles AIA's event management.

A McGraw-Hill Construction spokesperson said in a statement: "For the last 10 years, we’ve had a publishing partnership with the AIA, which concludes in December. Working independently, we will be best positioned to provide a trusted voice, to serve the new and emerging needs of the architectural community and to advance our business interests. It appears that AIA was essentially looking for a custom publication they would control. That is not what the market needs now or in the future."
