Published on .

New York—Advanstar Communications announced Friday that James M. Alic has been named to succeed Robert L. Krakoff as chairman of the company’s board of directors.

Alic has served as vice chairman since July 1996. Before joining Advanstar, he was VP-corporate controller at IBM Corp. and served as chairman-CEO of Reed Exhibition Cos.

“I am pleased that Jim Alic will take on the role of chairman. He is an invaluable contributor to our success, with a wealth of knowledge, experience and ability,” Advanstar CEO Joseph Loggia said in a statement.

Advanstar announced last Friday that Krakoff would be retiring the following day.
