Allstate to challenge direct sales channel

Published on .

Allstate Corp., Northbrook, Ill., plans to introduce direct sales of insurance policies through the Internet, challenging its direct sales force of 15,000 agents. The move is part of a company restructuring that started last year. Allstate said it would not discount policies purchased on the Internet, and challenged its agents to provide a level of customer service superior to an online application.
