Palo Alto, Calif.--Search engine AltaVista, Palo Alto, Calif., plans to announce Monday the formation of a new business unit focused on delivering search engines for checking business inventories, pricing and availability. Dubbed AltaVista Business Solutions, the unit will attempt to market search engine software for $5,000 to business-to-business companies. AltaVista is also working on software that searches corporate Web sites and in-house databases at the same time, due out by April 1. AltaVista's venture underscores the move by search engine companies to target audiences more specifically. On Friday, Walt Disney Co.'s Go.com announced it will focus on entertainment and leisure rather than broader topics.
