Amazon introduces a second daily deals service

Published on .

Seattle—Amazon.com Inc. has rolled out its latest entry in the crowded daily deals arena with the debut of AmazonLocal, an aggregator of other daily deal services. The first city served by AmazonLocal is Boise, Idaho. AmazonLocal initially is offering deals via LivingSocial, the second-largest daily deals service after Groupon, which filed an initial public offering Thursday. Amazon is the single largest investor in LivingSocial, but said the new service will aggregate daily deals from other services as well. This is Amazon's second foray into daily deals. Last month, the company introduced Myhabit, which offers high-end apparel using an “until it runs out” model used by cable TV shopping shows.
