After 11 years with American Express and helping to foster the growth of its popular Open Forum, Scott Roen has taken a job as Managing Director and Head of Digital Marketing at financial services giant BlackRock.
Mr. Roen, who recently made Ad Age's 40 Under 40 list, will officially join BlackRock on April 7 as a part of its Global Marketing & Communications Group. He was VP-digital marketing and innovation at American Express.
Mr. Roen will now report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer Anne Ackerley and help coordinate the teams driving BlackRock's digital advertising, web and social media strategies.
"Digital is an increasingly important part of marketing strategy. We're excited to welcome Scott to BlackRock, as one of the most talented digital marketers in the industry," Ms. Ackerley said in a statement. "His insights and leadership will be vital to further building out our digital capabilities and creating an impactful experience for clients."
American Express confirmed that he recently departed the company, but declined further comment. Mr. Roen could not be reached for comment at press time.
During his 40 Under 40 interview with Ad Age, Mr. Roen was asked what he would be doing if he were not at his recent job, to which he replied: "I don't know what I would rather be doing. I genuinely feel lucky... I would want to consult and help business owners in new and unique ways. If I wasn't doing it here, I would hope to do it in a similar space."
