Andersen to change name to Accenture

Published on .

New York--Andersen Consulting's widely anticipated new name will be Accenture. It will go into use on Jan. 1, 2001. Accenture is a coined word meant to connote the placing of emphasis on the future, according to a company statement. It was submitted not by Andersen Consulting's identity branding firm, but by one of its Norway-based consultants, Kim Petersen. It was chosen from a closely guarded list of several dozen potential names. The name change follows Andersen Consulting's recent split from Arthur Andersen.
