AOL to acquire TechCrunch

By Published on .

San Francisco—At the TechCrunch Disrupt 2010 conference here, AOL Inc. announced plans to acquire technology website network TechCrunch Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TechCrunch and its network of websites provide technology industry news and analysis. The network includes TechCrunch, CrunchGear and TechCrunchTV, as well as industry conferences, such as the ongoing TechCrunch Disrupt series.

“TechCrunch and its team will be an outstanding addition to the high-quality content on the AOL Technology Network, which is now a must-buy for advertisers seeking to associate their brands with leading technology content and its audience,” said Tim Armstrong, chairman-CEO of AOL, in a statement.

The acquisition continues AOL's aggressive moves into original content creation and supplements the AOL Technology Network, which includes Engadget and Switched.
