AOL introduces Open AIM strategy

Dulles, Va.—AOL on Monday announced its Open AIM initiative designed to make it easier for Web developers, companies and online communities to build customized applications and plug-ins for AOL’s instant messaging platform. AOL’s AIM reaches more than 63 million users. The company is making available an AIM Software Development Kit that enables developers to build tools that deliver real-time text, voice and video communications without compromising AOL’s instant messaging network security.

The news follows AOL’s announcement two weeks ago that it will launch a professional version of AIM for enterprises in partnership with WebEx Communications in the second quarter.
