AOL and Microsoft top Digital Media Universe's first ranking

New York--AOL Time Warner Inc. and Microsoft Corp. topped the ranking of parent company Web sites with the largest unique audience, according to the first Digital Media Universe report by the Nielsen//NetRatings audience measurement service.

Digital Media Universe is a new reporting service that combines Web-based traffic, Internet applications and browser channel audience data, including AOL proprietary channels.

AOL and Microsoft led the list of Top 10 Parent Companies operating Web sites, each attracting 92.6 million unique visitors during the month of October.

Yahoo! Inc. drew 79.8 million unique visitors, while visitors to U.S. government Web sites totaled more than 38.3 million visitors.

Google captured about 37.7 million unique visitors.
