AOL unveils beta of its at-work IM

Published on .

Dulles, Va.—On the heels of the February announcement that AOL and WebEx Communications were developing a business version of the AIM instant messaging service for at-work instant messaging users, Time Warner subsidiary AOL announced it has launched the public beta of the AIM Pro service (http://beta.aol.com). AIM Pro is designed for use by individual professionals, work groups and small and midsize businesses, according to AOL. It will be launched officially in late summer and will be available for a subscription fee. The professional edition includes voice and video conferencing tools, as well as a "share your desktop" service via WebEx. A separate beta test for the Enterprise Instant Messaging edition with centralized administrative controls for larger corporations will be available next week, the company said.
