Ariba enhances buying system

Sunnyvale, Calif.--Ariba Inc., which earlier this year won a Department of Defense contract to manage high volumes of spending, said Monday that it has included major new features in Ariba Sourcing 3.0-a product designed to make buying organizations more efficient within eight weeks of purchase.A key to the product is its ability to allow buyers to negotiate better long-term contracts. It features a complaints engine that ties those contract terms back to a purchasing executive responsible for enforcing them.Ariba Sourcing also includes a message board that allows suppliers to put up public queries. Sundar Raghavan, director-product marketing and management for Ariba Enterprise Sourcing, said the product launch "announces to its customers and prospects that we can manage the spend effectively,'' whether it is office supplies, direct materials involved in production or a highly specialized item. Kansas City Nuclear Power Plant recently saved more than $3 million in its first nine months of using an Ariba buying system, Raghavan said. Pricing varies depending on the size of the company and the amount of spending through the system.
