Mountain View, Calif.--Ariba Inc. became the first pure-play b-to-b infrastructure company to post an operating profit, but it also saw its astronomic growth rate slow significantly. The company posted a fiscal first-quarter profit of $14 million on revenues of $170.2 million. But Ariba's revenues grew only 26% in the quarter, versus previous quarters in which revenues grew by as much as 100%. In part, the slowdown can be attributed to the fact that Ariba is simply a larger company today. But an overall slowdown in IT and dot-com spending looks to contribute to the lower numbers.
